 Special Character
The school, established in 1965, offers a broad-based, quality education, which encourages the achievement of each pupil's academic and personal potential. There are 100 highly qualified teaching staff and academic excellence is encouraged and achieved.

Location and Facilities
Otumoetai College is situated in Tauranga (population 90,000) in the Bay of Plenty, 217 kms from Auckland. The Bay of Plenty climate is pleasantly warm and temperate and the area is a centre for horticulture. Tauranga is a port city for overseas shipping and is famous for its ocean beaches for swimming, surfing and boating. Otumoetai College, in spacious grounds, is at the centre of a residential suburb not far from the harbour. There are specialist facilities for Art, Science, Computing, Home Economics, Clothing and Commerce, Technical Workshops and a well stocked library and information centre. Sports are catered for in a new multi-activity recreation centre, gymnasium, swimming pool, netball and tennis courts.

Academic Programme
Students begin in Year 9 (Form 3), about 13 years of age, and complete their studies after 5 years in Year 13 (Form 7). The school sets specific academic and personal goals for its students and offers a full range of courses for external examinations: School Certificate in Year 11 (Form 5), University Bursary and Scholarship Examinations in Year 13 (Form 7). These lead on to tertiary polytechnic or university studies. A planning guide is available to help students select appropriate courses.

Extra Curricular Programme
The school has a strong tradition of music, choir, drama and debating. Student sport teams and outdoor activities are an important part of school life and leisure time.

Special Relations with International Schools and Students
The school offers places to only a limited number of full-fee students so that they can become part of school classes and New Zealand families. The school also welcomes visits of student groups from overseas schools.

Student Welfare
The international students programme is the responsibility of the Director of International Students. High standards of work and behaviour are expected. The Director provides counselling and guidance, handles students' finances, travel and insurance and arranges airport transfers from Auckland International Airport.

Accommodation
Parents and friends provide accommodation in their homes close to the school. These are approved and monitored by the Director and the Homestay co-ordinator and homestay guidelines are provided. Homestay costs are NZ$150 per week with an annual placement fee of NZ$100.

English Language Entry Requirements
The school requires an assessment of English ability from the student's last school.

English Language Support
The tuition fees include a special individual Curriculum Support and English programme (CES), organised for international students until they are ready for full subject classes. A specialist language tutor teaches English and provides tutorial help in other subject areas. Students may begin classes at any time during the year.

Fees
The annual tuition fee for the school year, February to December is NZ$8,500 including GST.
