Special Character

St Kevinís is administered by the international educational religious order of Christian Brothers. It is a welcoming, caring community with 71 years of tradition in creating a family atmosphere for boarders. Its aims are to promote excellence in all aspects of human development: academic, cultural, aesthetic, sporting, personal and religious.

Location and Facilities
St Kevin's is in Oamaru, a safe small town situated between the two South Island university cities. Oamaru is close to Mt Cook, ski fields, rivers, lakes and sea. The dry moderate climate allows a wide variety of sporting activities for which the college is well known. The huge 27 ha grounds are attractive, peaceful and provide opportunities for many sports. Teaching specialist areas include computer-based learning, word processing and science laboratories, art, music, home economics, library and gymnasium facilities. Both the girlsí hostel and the boysí hostel are new, provide individual rooms, attractive common and recreational areas and a family atmosphere.

Academic Programme/Subjects Offered
The college offers a broad curriculum leading to New Zealandís national certificates (including Bursary and Scholarship) and subsequent study at universities and other tertiary institutions. Senior level subjects offered are: English, Mathematics, Religious Studies, Science, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Agriculture, Accounting, Economics, French, Geography, History, Art, History of Art, Typewriting, Word Processing, Home Economics, Physical Education, Media Studies, Journalism, Computer Studies, Technical Drawing and short courses in a variety of subjects, some in conjunction with polytechnic institutes.

Extra Curricular Programme
This includes house and individual choral competitions, a college choir, individual instrumental music instruction, college band, drama competitions, public speaking, camping, tramping, retreat days, clubs, use of computing and video equipment and sports, including cricket, softball, tennis, swimming, golf, athletics, cross-country, shooting, hockey, netball, rugby, soccer, basketball, handball, volleyball and badminton.

Special Relations with Overseas Schools and Students
The college is eager to learn from students of other cultures and has several such students from a variety of countries on its roll.

Student Welfare
Caring is the keynote of this Christian college. New students feel welcomed and at home. Deans, counsellors and hostel parents are in place to assist overseas students.

Accommodation
Students board at the college enabling constant practising of English, regular assistance with homework and access to the school facilities outside of school hours. Holidays may be spent with families of students in various parts of the South Island.

English Language Support
Tutoring in the English language is available as required.

 Fees
1999 annual tuition fees are NZ$7,750. Hostel fees for the school year are NZ$5,680 with NZ$20 per night being charged for holidays.
