Responsible for New Zealand's relations with the International Energy Agency (IEA) involving management of the Emergency Oil Sharing Scheme and the Alternative Energy Research Group. Sept. - 1975 - Sept. 1976 : Ministry of Defence. Senior Staff Officer (Lieutenant Colonel) in the Strategic Planning Team which was responsible for formulating defence policy both independently and as an input to foreign policy. Primarily responsible for civilian input and liaison with the JIB (see below) and ANZUK and ANZUK IGS. Security clearance : TSU; Sept. 1974 - Sept. 1975 : Ministry of Defence. Staff Officer (Major) in the Tactical and Logistic Planning Team which was responsible for providing planning and administrative support for NZ forces Singapore and the planning and evaluation of exercises including the ANZUS Kangaroo amphibious assault series. Security clearance : TSU; April, 1973 - August, 1974 : Joint Intelligence Bureau (JIB), Prime Minister's Department. Intelligence officer, initially in the Scientific and Technical Intelligence section as weapons systems analyst, then later as Middle East desk officer during the 1973 Arab-Israeli War and subsequent Oil Crisis. Security clearance : TSU. 1968-January, 1969 : Industrial Engineer, Engineering Services Division, Australian Consolidated Industries (ACI), Auckland.
